Easily Create Amazing 3D Models with SketchUp!
SketchUp is a 3D modeling software that can be used for creating images for education, game design and a variety of construction purposes including architecture, urban planning, landscaping, interior design and more.. It's a leader in the CADD (Computer Aided Design and Drafting) industry, and Google uses it to design aspects of Google Earth.
SketchUp has an intuitive interface and is easy to use. It works like an extension of your hand, as any good art tool should. It has customizable toolbars to put your favorite features in easy reach, and an animation will briefly tell you the function of each large, easy-to-see icon the first time you use the program. Don't let the simplicity fool you though. It has all the tools you need to create professional and complex designs.
You can use models, symbols, textures, lighting effects and animations to create whatever you can envision. You can edit color and text, and the layer feature lets you overlay one aspect of a drawing on top of another. The first person view allows you to see inside your model, look around and even walk around. SketchUp has a Section Plane tool that allows you to cut objects into sections and move and rotate them just like a whole object. You can even use Sketchy Edges to make your drawing look like it was done with natural pencil strokes by hand.
The 3D Warehouse is an enormous library of free 3D models. Anyone in the SketchUp community can use models from the library and anyone can contribute new ones. This is very useful for when you want to add something common to your design like furniture.
You can import existing designs that are in HPGL, WMF and XYZ formats, and you can export designs in these formats and others, including RIB, VRML, WPG, DWF and PDF.
